history

Around 842 ecclesia de Puire was obliged to pay a tithing to villa Pladono (Bludenz) and was therefore declared to be parishioners. The church was an early mass foundation around 1347. The church was elevated to a parish church before 1442. A new building took place around 1480, whereby the choir was retained. In 1768 the church was redesigned in baroque style. In 1843, after a fire, the nave was renewed and extended and consecrated in 1872.

architecture

The church stands next to a towering cliff in the south of the village of Bürs and is surrounded by a cemetery. The classical church building has a preserved Gothic choir, both under a shared gable roof.

The mighty nave has a classicist gable facade, above the arched gable portal is a painting Christ driving the traders out of the temple, the long sides also have a portal system. The north tower has coupled pointed arches in the round arch sound openings. The portal of the tower shows 1863, the pointed gable helmet was put on in 1906. A two-storey sacristy is attached to the choir on the east side.

The interior of the four-bay nave has flat lancet vaults over a surrounding cornice. The drawn-in flattened choir arch stands on pillars. The retracted two-bay choir with a three-eighth closure has Gothic ribbed vaults on consoles. There is one in the choir and eight round arched windows with stucco crowning in the nave. The straight gallery on two pillars has two stairways. The choir arch reveal and the gallery balustrade show stucco decor. In the choir on the left there is a Gothic tabernacle and a keel arch niche with branch turrets , with two empty bands on the sides and two angels at the top (around 1480). The glass paintings - in the choir on the left the Lamb of God and on the right the Ark of the Covenant, in the nave on the left Elisabeth, Theresia, Agnes and on the right Judas Thaddäus , Stanislaus Kostka , Tarzisius - was created by the Tyrolean glass painting establishment (around 1880/1890).

Furnishing

Bertsch built the high altar with a neo-Gothic structure using parts of the former Gothic winged altar (around 1480). The high altar was taken by Hanns Martin (1886). The altarpiece (around 1580) shows Mary with the child and Theodul and Nikolaus. In side niches there are Gothic reliefs with Katharina on the left and Ursula on the right. Gothic wing pictures show Magdalena on the inside on the left and Laurentius on the right and Lucius on the outside on the left and Agatha on the right. In the burst is a Gothic figure Martin with two angels (around 1886). On the left of the predella is a victim of Melchisedech and on the right is an Emmaus disciple (1886). In the antependium is the former Gothic predella relief of Christ and the twelve apostles. In the tabernacle niche there is a standing cross and an angel with a tape (1886).

The left side altar (around 1770) with a four-column structure with open entablature and a volute top carries the niche figure Madonna and Child (around 1886) and shows Magdalena with the figures Katharina and Barbara (around 1640) in the upper picture. The right side altar (around 1770) with the same structure bears the niche figure Josef (around 1886) with bishops as side figures (around 1640) and God the Father in the excerpt (around 1640). Two putti and a crucifix on the right wall of the nave were attributed to Johann Ladner (around 1770). Under the gallery are the reliefs, on the left the Last Supper with Magdalena inscribed with 1640 CK, renovated in 1826 with a coat of arms, and on the right Jesus in the temple .

The pulpit with Rocailles decor from the middle of the 18th century bears the figures of Scholastica and Benedict (around 1680).

The font with 1754 with a cartouche and two putti heads bears the lid figure of John the Baptist. The stations of the cross were painted by Josef Anton Bertle (1846).

The organ was built by Liberat Ammann (1844). It was restored in 1958. There is a bell from 1747.
