history

Originally, an emergency church built in 1949 and 1950 stood on the site of today's church. Between 1956 and 1961, this was replaced by today's church based on plans by Wilhelm Braun and Willibald Braun . In 1953 a parish vicariate was established. The sacred building was consecrated in 1961 . 1983 St. Gebhard was raised to an independent parish. In 2011, the interior of the church was redesigned by the architecture firm Christian Lenz. The altar was moved into the nave, the former chancel is now used as a weekday chapel.

Church interior

inside view

Inside the church is a large hall with a flat ceiling that is tiered. The walls are divided into pilaster strips and broken up by rectangular windows. To the right of the entrance is the baptistery, which today serves as a prayer chapel. As part of the renovation, the chancel was moved to a three-tiered altar island in the nave and the chancel was redesigned into a weekday chapel and delimited in the upper area by the triptych "The movable St. Gebhardsbild" by Hubert Berchtold (once made for the courtyard on Gebhardsberg). Scenes from the life of St. Gebhard are depicted in the image zone of the recessed ceiling. These were painted by Emil Gehrer in 1961 . The glass paintings on the windows in the chancel, today's weekday chapel, were made by Hubert Berchtold in 1958. They were made by the Tyrolean glass painting workshop. On the left side St. Gallus is depicted above and St. Heinrich below. On the right side, St. Konrad is shown in the upper half and the blessed Heinrich Seuse at the bottom .

Furnishing

Above the left side altar is a figure of St. Mary and above the right side altar is a figure of St. Joseph . Both come from Emil Gehrer from 1963 and 1964. The Stations of the Cross were created in 1958 by Leo Sebastian Humer . The figures in the anteroom from the 20th century represent Saints Thaddäus and Antonius . The ambo was built from the old communion benches before the renovation.
