history

A parish was mentioned in a document in 1437. The church was at times Protestant. A previous tower above the choir has been handed down in the 17th century.

architecture

The church is surrounded by an old cemetery with a defensive wall.

Church exterior

The late Gothic church building has stepped buttresses at the choir. The mighty west tower in front has an onion helmet. A gable facade, blinded in 1780, has two buttresses and carries vases. The west portal has a pointed roof and shows three-dimensional flower hangings. The portal in the tower porch is ogival and has a triple grooved soffit. There is a sacristy annex to the south.

Church interior

The six-bay nave has five bays under a late Gothic net rib vault on pillars with semicircular services and shows one round and four coat of arms-shaped keystones. The easternmost yoke is baroque under a lancet barrel vault. The gallery is wide over two bays and has ogival arcades, one yoke has a cross vault with originally painted ribs, one yoke has a flat ceiling on two supports.

The triumphal arch is round and has a wide throat in the transition from the nave to the choir. The long barrel-vaulted choir closes off round.

The mural Last Judgment and Coronation of Mary from 1623 was restored in 1977. The neo-baroque stained glass is from the fourth quarter of the 19th century.

Furnishing

The high altar bears a free-standing tabernacle from 1710 on a stone canteen with a vaulted door between twisted columns and angels to the side and a throne with a canopy. The tabernacle was transferred here by the Franciscans in Eisenstadt around 1783 and changed. The altarpiece of St. Georg with angels in a black frame with plait decoration on the apse wall was painted by the Eisenstadt painter Laurenz Lust (1783).
