history
A chapel was mentioned in documents in 1465 and 1497. The church has been a local pilgrimage destination since the end of the 15th century. From 1501 to 1513 a uniform late Gothic hall church was built , which was consecrated in 1522. In 1760 a parish vicariate was set up in Engabrunn and in 1788 it was incorporated into the Herzogenburg Abbey. In 1866 it was elevated to a parish church.
The cemetery originally located north of the church on today's Kirchenplatz was moved to the south side in 1787.
description
The late Gothic hall with a retracted choir has a compact west tower. This massive three-storey tower, presented in the west, only rises up to the ridge height of the nave and shows a plaster scratch squaring of the corners, has pointed arch arcades on the north and south sides and has a coupled segment-arched sound window on the north and south sides on the third storey and carries a crown of Pointed and round gables an eight-sided brick pyramid helmet.
The nave and choir are opened by uniform two-lane pointed arch windows each with different tracery and are supported by buttresses that are stepped three times. The three-bay nave is accessible on the north side in the middle bay through a richly barbed shoulder arch portal that was exposed in 1972. In addition, in the eastern yoke, a coat of arms in relief marked 1522 with a wine tusk's tool is attached. A mask face with a branch can be seen on the buttress. A branch cross is located above the gable wall on the choir side. The retracted, one-yoke choir has a five-eighth closing. To the north is the two-bay sacristy from the 16th century.
The tower vestibule with a barrel vault was originally open and has a pointed arched portal with the year 1501 into the church.
The stained glass of the three windows in the choir shows the apostles Peter and Paul and the four evangelists.
Furnishing
The high altar as a neo-Gothic carved altar was consecrated in 1906 and bears the statues Sebastian, Peter and Paul and Maria in the burst. Next to the people's altar from 1966 is the old baptismal font. Right next to it is the former Gothic vestry portal with the miraculous image of the Infant Jesus of Prague in a showcase.
The organ was built by Friedrich Heftner (1988) with 10 registers in the case from 1883. The Zügenglöckerl is from 1923. The bell was restored in 1948.
