The parish church of Ferlach is elevated off the market square of Ferlach and is dedicated to St. Martin . The former branch of the original parish Kappel was elevated to a parish in 1799.

Building description

Today's church is largely a new building based on plans by Anton Zemann, which was built in 1969/70 in place of a small baroque building. The west facade with the tower and a north chapel were taken over from the old church. The coat of arms grave plate of Maria Eva Victoria von Silbernagel († 1751) is attached to the outer wall. The three-storey tower from 1747 is crowned by an onion helmet with a lantern. The baroque west portal is located in the open, groin-vaulted tower ground floor.

Facility

The three altars date from the third quarter of the 18th century. The altar sheet with the depiction of the church saint was painted by Josef Sattmann in 1844. On the side are the statues of a holy bishop and St. Lawrence . The essay is a carving group with the lessons of Mary. Next to the high altar is the console figure of Saints George and Florian from the 18th century as the shrine guard. The left side altar bears a kneeling figure of Immaculate between Saints Apollonia and Katharina , the top picture shows Saint Margaret , flanked by the figures of Saints Luzia and Barbara . On the right side altar stands the figure of St. Joseph between the two Johns, the top picture shows Francis of Assisi , surrounded by the statuettes of St. Leonhard and Ulrich .

The lecture cross dates from the 18th century, the lavabo with a knight's head in the sacristy from the 17th century. Three glass paintings made in the Tyrolean glass painting and mosaic workshop in Innsbruck were taken from the old church and depict scenes from the Turkish wars: Emperor Leopold's entry into liberated Vienna, the naval battle of Lepanto and Markus von Aviano, who blessed Emperor Leopold and King Johann Sobieski . The colored glass windows in the nave were made to designs by Karl Bauer. The mural in the north-western chapel by August Veiter from 1892/1894 shows the crucifixion. On both sides under the organ gallery are console figures of the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus . The pictures of the Stations of the Cross come from the parish church of St. Peter in Holz .
