The parish church Ferschnitz is elevated on the southern outskirts in the market town of Ferschnitz in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Sixtus II belongs to the Amstetten deanery of the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

A parish was mentioned in a document in 1334, a donation from von Zelking in 1352 , and around 1575 the nave was rebuilt under Reichart Strein von Schwarzenau . This makes the parish church one of the few surviving former Protestant patron churches in Lower Austria. A restoration took place in 1965.

architecture

The church is surrounded on two sides by a churchyard wall with a gable portal in the axis to the tower portal with a terracotta coat of arms Georg Erasmus Tschernembl 1615 and on the back with the coat of arms of those of Strein .

The basilical church building has a three-aisled nave with a massive west tower from the late Renaissance and a late Gothic long choir around 1499.

Furnishing

The high altar with a three-part wall-like structure with Hermen angels and Polierweiß statues from 1757 to 1770 by Kaspar Timpf and the statues Josef and Leopold by Franz Wittmann shows the altar sheet Beheading of St. Sixtus by Martin Johann Schmidt 1770.

The organ was built by the Mauracher brothers in 1931.
