Reichard Streun von Schwarzenau (also Reichart, also Strein ; * 1538 ; † 1600 at Freydegg Castle near Ferschnitz in the Amstetten district ) belonged to the Austrian noble family of the von Strein family and worked as a politician and historian during the Habsburg monarchy .

Life

He studied law in Padua and Strasbourg from 1554 to 1559 , was a member of the court council from 1564 to 1566 and president of the court chamber from 1567 to 1575 . He was a close confidante of Maximilian II.

He was of Protestant faith, but often tried to mediate between Protestants and Catholics and is considered to be the father of the religious concession of 1568.

In 1588 he began the constitution of the "Landhandfeste", a compendium of the country-class constitution that summarizes the privileges of the country. In addition, he worked on historical works, including the "Annales historici or Historisch Jarzeit Buech des Ertzduchthums Österreich ob der Ennß" on the first attempt at a regional history of Upper Austria .

The ancestral castle of the Streun von Schwarzenau family is Schwarzenau Castle . Reichard chose Freydegg Castle as his residence. In 1572 he came to the Dürnstein fief , in 1579 to the Thürnthal fief , and in 1582 to the Haindorf fief near Langenlois .

From January 1563 he was married to Katharina von der Dürr zu Pernstein. They had two sons and seven daughters. After Katharina's death in 1580, he married Regina von Tschernembel, a sister of Georg Erasmus von Tschernembl, on September 24, 1581 at Karlsbach Castle . They had five sons. Reichard is buried in the church in Ferschnitz .
