Catholic parish church hl. Nicholas in Fußach

The Roman Catholic parish church Fußach stands in the center of the community Fußach in the district of Bregenz in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the dean's office in Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building is a listed building .

Location description

The church was built in place of the old church in the center of Fußach in the cemetery.

history

In the 15th century there was a small chapel in Fußach. In 1641 and 1671 altar consecrations are mentioned in a document. Originally the church was incorporated into the parish of Höchst , but in 1690 it became an independent parish. After a major fire in 1854, which also destroyed the church and rectory, the tower that still exists today was built in 1856, the neo-Romanesque church in 1863. The church was demolished in 1976 and rebuilt in 1976 to 1978 according to plans by Leopold Ostertag and Leopold Kaufmann from the New Vorarlberger Building School replaced.

The church building is a broad structure under a hipped roof . The church tower is three-story with cornices . In the ground floor zone of the tower is a round arch portal with stepped gable. Above it is a niche with a figure of St. Nicholas from the mid-19th century. The tower also has arched sound openings with stone framing and is covered with a gable-pointed helmet. The burial hall of the cemetery is integrated.

The nave is a polygonal room with a wooden roof shaped like a tent roof. The organ is on the gallery.

Furnishing

The altar, the ambo , the baptismal font, the sacrament stele, the holy water basin and the offering box were made by Herbert Albrecht in 1978. The two figures " Maria with Child " and " Antonius " date from the beginning of the 20th century. In the weekday chapel there is a Gothic figure of Mary with a child, attributed to Jakob Ruß . It was built around 1490 and used to stand in the field chapel built in 1974.

The organ was built by Benedikt Klingler in 1868 .
