history

The original branch of Bregenz was raised to local chaplaincy in 1430 and became an independent parish in 1646. A chapel was mentioned in a document in the early 15th century. In 1499 a cemetery was laid out for those who died in the Battle of Hard . In 1684 the church was rebuilt with Balthasar Brill, and a tower was built in 1721. In 1862 work was carried out on the choir and tower. A new building of the nave according to plans by Leopold von Claricini was consecrated in 1876. In 1882 the tower received another superstructure. In 1980 it was restored according to plans by the architect Hans Purin .

architecture

The neo-Romanesque church has an east tower.

The hall longhouse with central nave and side aisles is under a shared gable roof. The aisle walls have five arched windows in blind niches with arched friezes, separated by narrow pilaster services. In the north and south the church has porches on four pillars. The end of the aisle is a round apse under a conical roof. The western front shows itself with recessed side aisles with arched portals in blind niches and arched windows in blind niches and arched frieze arranged over a cornice. The central nave shows itself in the western front with wall pilasters as a lateral boundary, the gable field has a round arch frieze, the central round arch portal has a free tympanum field and a wooden door with lion rings. The gable portico has a barrel vault on pillars and a round arch niche with coupled round arched windows. The retracted choir stands under a gable roof and has rose windows on the side. To the south of the choir is a two-storey sacristy and next to it a new one-storey extension. The two-storey tower with a pointed gable helmet stands at the apex of the choir, in the high basement there are three arched sound openings in the north, east and south under a surrounding cornice, and coupled round arch sound openings on the upper floor.

The three-aisled, five-bay nave with a high central nave and lower aisles is vaulted with rhombuses in all aisles, the transition from the central nave to the side aisles is formed by arched arcades with profiled round bars on columns and capitals with neo-Romanesque acanthus and cruciform decoration. The belt arches rest on pilaster strips. The choir arch in the central nave has two strong round ribs with a fillet. The choir arch was bricked up during the restoration in 1980. The side aisles close with round apses. The separated, drawn-in choir with round apse was made two-storey in 1980 by a drawn-in ceiling, the basement became a sacrament and weekday chapel with a portal to the sacristy, and the upper floor became a meditation room. The single-bay, five-axis west gallery has a groin vault on pillars.

Furnishing

A crucifix from around 1700 hangs on the altar wall placed in the arch of the choir. In the right side apse there is a figure from the end of the 18th century depicting Mary and Child. There is a figure of St. Sebastian from the beginning of the 18th century. The stations of the cross originated in the beginning of the 20th century.

The organ was built in 1961 by the Reinisch-Pirchner organ building company .

graveyard

The church is surrounded by a cemetery to the south and east. The cemetery was expanded in 1899 and 1957. The mission cross dates from 1871. The war memorial with a cross with two mourning women was created in 1930 by Friol from Bregenz.
