The parish church Kapfenberg - Maria Königin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Richard-Wagner-Gasse 39 in the district of Schirmitzbühel of the city of Kapfenberg in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in the state of Styria . It is dedicated to the feast of Maria Königin and, together with the parishes of Kapfenberg-Hl. Family and Kapfenberg-St.Oswald the parish association Kapfenberg in the deanery Bruck an der Mur .

history

The church was built between 1956 and 1957 according to plans by the Kapfenberg architect Ferdinand Schuster and was consecrated in 1957.

Architecture and equipment

The church has a large, suggestive three-nave interior and a free-standing bell tower. On the facade there is a relief "Ecclesia" by Wander Bertoni . The chancel is raised by eight steps and has a higher roof structure, which is lit through narrow, high windows. The interior of the nave looks rather dark. The back wall of the altar is curved and is complemented by a steel altar cross by Rudolf Hoflehner . It is an important sacred work of art from the late 1950s. Also noteworthy are the abstract and colored concrete glass windows by Mario Decleva . The altar is visible from every seat in the nave, as no supporting column obstructs the view.

The interior of the church appears simple and natural. The wall cladding is made of wood and the concrete with the still recognizable wood structure of the formwork panels is unplastered. The floor tiles are reminiscent of red bricks.
