history

A parish had existed since 1716 and was incorporated into Lilienfeld Abbey from the start. The church was built from 1741 and consecrated in 1780 and stands next to the Marienberg monastery of the Lilienfeld monastery and on the ruins of the previous Marienberg monastery of the Heiligenkreuz monastery .

architecture

The central building in the basic shape of the Greek cross with rounded corners has a western main gable facade with giant pilasters and a curved gable with a facade turret with Ionic corner pilasters and a pyramid helmet. The square nave is square vaulted with a broadly curved throat to the gallery and choir yoke. The transverse arms of the ship are deep niches under shield arches. The wide gallery has a bulging parapet. The square, flat-closing choir is vaulted with a square. To the north of the choir is an oratorio in the Rococo style.

Furnishing

The remarkable furnishings were created in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century.

The high altar with a concave wall and an entablature over two columns has a richly structured structure with angels and the Eye of God and shows the altarpiece of the Assumption of the Virgin by the painter Stephan Schaller (1757), the top image of St George, and bears the figures of Stephan and Ladislaus, Benedict and Bernhard. The tabernacle is lavishly designed in the Rococo style.

The side altars on the left and right in the triumphal arch are wall altars with a rocaille frame and reredos with medallions and show Anna Maria teaching on the left and Johannes Nepomuk in the glory on the right , both by Stephan Schaller (1770). The side altar in the left transverse arm as a wall altar with pilasters placed over a corner and a high top with rich rococo design bears the figure group Holy Family in the canopy-crowned central niche and the figures Joachim and Anna to the side. The side altar in the right transverse arm with a structure as on the left shows St. Anthony of Padua in front of the Madonna in the altarpiece and bears the figures of John the Baptist and Anna.

The pulpit shows in relief Faith Love Hope and on the sound cover the figure Good Shepherd. As a counterpart to the pulpit on the right arrow of the ship, a large crucifixion group with Saints John and Magdalena and in the essay God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit and angels. The baptismal font bears a sculptural group of Anabaptists.

The organ is from the 19th century.
