Parish church of St. Stephan in Krumbach

The Roman Catholic parish church of Krumbach is located in the municipality of Krumbach in the Wiener Neustadt-Land district in Lower Austria . The church, consecrated to St. Stephen , belongs to the dean's office in Kirchschlag in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald in the Archdiocese of Vienna . The former fortified church is a listed building .

history

This church was built around 1281 in the parish that was created in 1254 when it was separated from the Edlitz parish. Around 1400 it received a Gothic tower, which received its present appearance when it was rebuilt in 1888, as well as pillars and machicolations . This enabled it to be defended against the Turks in 1683 and against Kuruc invasions at the beginning of the 18th century. A crenellated defensive wall is occupied until around 1820. In the 17th century the interior was redesigned (barrel vault and wall pillars) and an extension was added again in 1842/43.

The interior is from the 17th and 18th centuries. The high altar shows the stoning of Saint Stephen , flanked by statues of Saints Barbara and Catherine. There is also a miraculous image of Maria Landshut on the high altar, which used to be a popular destination for regional pilgrimages.

The right side altar shows Saints Sebastian and Rochus on the altar sheet and Saint Agatha in a medallion above. The left side altar is known as the Marian or Family Altar and shows the Holy Family on the altar sheet and the Saints Anna and Joachim as statues.

On the left wall of the church there is also the tombstone of the Joachim Francesco family, castle administrators in the middle of the 17th century and donors of the right side altar (1650).

Interior from the gallery

The organ in the choir gallery dates from 1898, was changed several times and finally restored to its original condition in 1997. It was built by the Mauracher organ building company , donated by Dean Severin Zecha, who was pastor of Krumbach from 1871 to 1898.

The church of Krumbach is the station of the Mariazeller Weg and part of the Wehrkirchenstraße in the Bucklige Welt .
