Marie Elisabeth Müller (born April 21, 1966 in Düsseldorf ) is a German university professor , journalist , author and consultant .

Origin and career

Marie Elisabeth Müller grew up with three siblings in Düsseldorf in her parents' parsonage, in the immediate vicinity of the Paul Gerhardt Church. Before the First World War, her grandfather Julius Müller founded and ran a printing company in Duisburg, which did not survive the Second World War and was later reopened. The Second World War, the Holocaust and the German history of the 20th century are recurring themes in Müller's work.

After completing a master's degree in literature, philosophy and linguistics at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , she completed her doctorate in media studies in 1998 at the University of Konstanz with Joachim Paech . In her dissertation, she developed an aesthetic of digital storytelling in contemporary film and Peter Greenaway's feature films .

At the same time, Müller has been working as a journalist, editor and producer for SWR2 in Stuttgart and Baden-Baden since 1992 . Since 2004 she has taught at the University of Nairobi and lived in Kenya for four years. Between 2010 and 2014 she worked as a journalist, author and university lecturer in Berlin. From September 2014, Müller went to the Hochschule der Medien (HDM) in Stuttgart as a professor for five years before setting up her own startup. She specializes in innovations in storytelling and digital journalism and advises German and international media houses and organizations on the transition to digital work processes and structures. Her topics include the use of digital mobile technology and immersive technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality .

As a trainer and consultant, Müller founded the Now Age Storytelling - Consultancy for digital skills development together with her Indian business partner and colleague Devadas Rajaram , which imparts digital media skills and multimedia storytelling. Müller and Rajaram support educational programs for communities and schools and advise newsrooms and comms teams on strategic digitization and immersive storytelling solutions. Together with Harald Eichsteller, dean for master’s courses at the Hochschule der Medien, she publishes the “Now Media” book series on storytelling trends, which promotes the work of young media professionals.

Müller lives in Kochi (India) and Berlin.
