The Mürzzuschlag parish church is located in the municipality of Mürzzuschlag in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Kunigunde of Luxembourg , belongs to the Mürz Valley dean's office in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Probably the oldest church in the Mürz Valley was originally dedicated to St. Nicholas . A church was first mentioned in documents in 1094 and a parish in 1269. From the end of the 15th century until 1786 the parish was incorporated into the Neuberg Abbey. From 1767 a new building was built under the master builder Martin Rottmayr, and the church was consecrated in 1774. The structure of the Gothic tower was largely preserved after the renovation. The church facade was restored in 1961, and the interior as well between 1973 and 1974.

architecture

The wide three-bay nave has rounded niches with side chapels between the mighty wall pillars. Over a heavy cornice on Rococo capitals, square vaults rest on flat basket arch belts. The west gallery has a curved parapet. The drawn-in, flat, closed one-bay choir also has a square vault. The six-storey bell tower set in the southwest corner shows a baroque plaster ashlar, plaster pilaster strips and plaster double pilasters. The tower chapel has deeply drawn cross ribs. The top floor is designed in the baroque style with an onion roof and lantern. The south wall of the nave shows the Styrian coat of arms with a shield and ducal hat.

The figural stained glass windows were created in 1890.

There are coat of arms tombstones from 1557 and the 18th century.

Furnishing

A bell gives the year 1753.

organ

Today's organ in the parish church of Mürzzuschlag is the work of the Tyrolean organ builder Christian Erler. The slider chest instrument was built in 2010 and consecrated on October 10, 2010 at 10:10 a.m. It currently has 25 stops divided into 2 manuals and pedal, mechanical action mechanism and electrical stop action mechanism. The setting system allows you to save 4000 combinations and select them using push buttons and pistons. There are some videos of the organ on the video platform Youtube. It is used intensively in church services and concerts, but also as a teaching tool.
