history

In 1348 a church is mentioned in a document. In the 15th century a new larger church was built, which was extended before 1515 according to the plans of Hans Puecher. In 1659 the upper area of the church tower was rebuilt with the master carpenter Jakob Sauerwein and the master mason Paul Voglsperger. In 1710/1712 a renovation took place, in 1737/1739 a Baroque transformation with the pastor and architect Franz de Paula Penz . In 1783 a marble pavement from the abandoned Maria Waldrast monastery in Mühlbachl was installed here. In 1883 the church was restored inside, in 1884 and 1934/1935 outside, as well as in 1950/1951.

Mieders was a benefice in 1724, a curate in 1767 and became a parish in 1891.

architecture

The interior of the late Gothic church building was baroque. It is surrounded by a cemetery.

A choir closed on three sides and a slender south tower with a pointed helmet from the 17th century adjoin the five-bay nave. The interior is designed with stitch caps, pilasters and early Rococo stucco from around 1738. The ceiling frescoes with scenes from the life of the Virgin are from the year 1739 by Jakob Jenewein .

Furnishing

The baroque high altar from 1740 by Stefan Föger was rebuilt by Johann Weber in 1786 to accommodate the miraculous image of Maria Waldrast . In 1883 the high altar was changed and restored in 1950/1951. The high altar has a high plinth with side sacrificial portals. The double column structure shows the high altar sheet with the Mother of God, a copy painted in 1883 by Anton Kapferer after an original by Franz Ittenbach . In the extract, the altar bears a baroque oval medallion Maria Immaculata . Since the restoration in 1950/1951, the high altar has carried high-quality side statues Margaretha and Katharina, which were transferred here from the parish church of Sellrain .

A powerful, stern, larger-than-life crucifix from around 1500 from the Kreuzkirche hangs on the triumphal arch.

Jakob Jenewein painted the Stations of the Cross in 1733/1734.

The organ case was built around 1760/1770 as a five-panel main prospect and back positive with Rocailles decor. There are bells from 1834.

Two chasubles , one with the coat of arms of Archduchess Elisabeth in 1788 and one donated by Prince-Bishop Karl Franz von Lodron, are located in the sacristy.
