The Obermühl parish church is located in the village of Obermühl an der Donau in the municipality of Kirchberg ob der Donau in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary belongs to the Altenfelden deanery in the Linz diocese .
history
Between 1770 and 1772 a church was built in Obermühl and the birth of Mary was consecrated. At that time it was a branch church of the parish church Kirchberg ob der Donau . In 1933 the parish expositur Obermühl was founded and the church was renovated.
Due to the construction of the Danube power plant in Aschach , the backwater of which extends to Obermühl, the old town was relocated. The old church was demolished and the current church building was erected in a higher location in a modern style according to plans by the Viennese architect Heinz Scheide in 1964 as a replacement building. The new church was consecrated on September 20, 1964. The rococo altar of the old church was set up in the parish church Michaelnbach .
In 2007 the church was rebuilt according to plans by the architects Josef Schütz and Rainer Habringer and an artistic redesign by Gabriele and Alois Hain from Haslach an der Mühl .
