Catholic parish church of St. Kilian in Oberwang

The Roman Catholic parish church of Oberwang is located in the municipality of Oberwang in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to St. Kilian and belongs to the Frankenmarkt dean's office in the Linz diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The church is mentioned for the first time in 1145. The current church was built in 1428 and consecrated in 1470. The late Gothic building was rebuilt in 1687 by master bricklayer Andreas Stadler . In 1736 the aisles were added to the church and stuccoed and painted. In 1950 the interior was restored. The side altars and the pulpit were restored in 1959.

Church exterior

The west tower dates from 1561 and was rebuilt in 1709 and 1710. The third and fourth floors are octagonal. The helmet is pointed. The southern main gate has late Gothic framework and stonemason marks. The west portal under the tower is simple.

Church interior

Today the nave has three aisles and two bay bays. The central nave is barrel vaulted . The choir is slightly drawn in opposite the nave and has two bays; it has a barrel vault and ends in the 3/8 end.

Furnishing

On the high altar is a plastic group depicting the "murder of St. Kilian". It was created by Meinrad Guggenbichler in 1707 and 1708 . Restorations took place in 1907 and 1958. The two side altars from the 1710s also come from Guggenbichler's workshop. On the right side altar is a glass shrine with a figure of St. Sebastian from around 1730. The pulpit from the second half of the 17th century was partially changed.
