The Roman Catholic Pfaffstätt parish church is located in the Pfaffstätt municipality in the Braunau am Inn district in Upper Austria . The church , consecrated to St. John the Baptist , belongs to the Mattighofen Dean's Office in the Diocese of Linz . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

One church was mentioned in a document in 796. The inside of the Gothic church was redesigned in Baroque style.

architecture

The single-nave, three-bay, wide-area nave with retracted buttresses is followed by a retracted single-bay choir with a five -eighth end . The low west tower has an eight-sided pointed spire. The sacristy has a star vault. In the vault of the nave and choir, the Gothic ribs were removed and in 1736 stuccoed with rich lattice and band work by Johann Michael Vierthaler. The frescoes with scenes from the life of John the Baptist were created by Franz Wenger from Braunau (1826).

Furnishing

The high altar from 1693 shows the altarpiece Beheading of John , carries remarkable statues of Saints Christoph and Georg probably from the circle of Thomas Schwanthaler and carries a tabernacle with a figural mercy seat probably from the construction time of the altar. There are alternating pictures by Johannes Evangelist Clemens della Croce the Younger (1799). The side altars from the second half of the 19th century were made around 1760/1770 using baroque ornamental parts and statues. The left side altar bears a Gothic wooden statue of Our Lady around 1470, probably by the same artist who created the figure of St. Kunigunde in Auerbach created. The altar of St. Sebastian around 1760/1770 with a stucco marble structure and good statues, on this altar there is an exquisitely carved display case with a figural representation of the Trinity and the Evangelists. In the shrine is a waxy, clad Jesus child from the third quarter of the 18th century. Above the altar is a figural wooden crucifix from the second half of the 17th century. The rococo pulpit was built around 1770 with the oratory parapet. The church chairs were made around 1730/1740.
