history

A church was mentioned in a document in 1179. From 1744 to 1777 the Gothic church was almost completely rebuilt from Kremsmünster Abbey and extended with the addition of two side aisles and furnished remarkably in the Rococo style.

architecture

The one-bay choir with a five-eighth end and a Gothic niche that was exposed again in 1888 has been preserved from the originally Gothic church building. A fresco of Christophorus from the middle of the 15th century has been preserved on the south wall of the west tower in the attic. The three-aisled, three-bay nave has flat hanging domes of wonderful colors and well-balanced lighting. The stucco work in the choir and oratorios was created around 1740/1750, the stucco work in the nave in Rococo style in the middle of the 18th century. On all the vaults there are frescoes with the guideline of St. Blood of Christ with contrasts from the Old Testament by the painter Wolfgang Andreas Heindl (1748). The three-axis west gallery has a swinging middle section. The west tower was raised in 1762 and has an onion helmet.

Furnishing

The high altar forms an artistic unit with the choir walls and windows. The tabernacle in the richest baroque was probably created by Balthasar Melber from Enns (around 1740). The side altars in the early Rococo have a rich plastic structure. The main pictures and top pictures of the altars were painted by Wolfgang Andreas Heindl. The pulpit was built around 1740/1750. The choir stalls and the church chairs are from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century. The doors are inlaid. The skylight grilles are made of wrought iron. A rococo wrought iron sconce is from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. Six large oil paintings from 1717 to 1713 by the painter Franz Karl Remp were transferred here from the Kremsmünster collegiate church. The pictures of the Stations of the Cross in oval frames were created around 1740/1750. The organ with two manuals and twelve registers, built in 1913 by Matthäus Mauracher from St. Florian , is in urgent need of restoration.
