Parish church Purbach am Neusiedler See
The Roman Catholic parish church of Purbach am Neusiedler See is located in the center of the town of Purbach am Neusiedler See in the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district in Burgenland . The parish church consecrated to St. Nicholas of Myra belongs to the dean's office in Rust in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building .
history
A medieval parish was mentioned in a document in 1418 and was later temporarily Protestant. The medieval church was renovated in 1641 and burned down in 1674. The new church from 1674 to 1677 was consecrated in 1680 and damaged in the Turkish War in 1683. In 1728 the tower was built. In 1780 the church was renovated. In 1870 another sacristy was added to the apse. In 1947/1948 and 1973 there were restorations.
architecture
The baroque building has a high four-story north tower with a stone pointed gable helmet, the top floor has a balcony with a dock balustrade on consoles. On the east side is a choir entrance. On the nave and the retracted polygonal closing choir are simply stepped buttresses. On the east side of the choir is a two-storey sacristy extension. At the apse there is a new sacristy with a gable front. Above the arched tower porch is a niche with the stone figure of Maria Immaculata. The main portal in the east has a cranked frame with a gable with a lintel supported by tufts of fruit. In the nave is a round arched niche with the remarkable stone figure of St. Nicholas.
Furnishing
The decor is remarkable. The high altar around 1780 bears a free-standing classical tabernacle with angels. On the apse wall in the architecture, the oil painting Trinity and St. Nikolaus as a helper in distress and underneath the depiction of an accident on Lake Neusiedl with the mention of Istv. Dorffmaister pinxit 1788 . On the picture frame, which is closed in an arched segment, there is an angel figure in a halo.
