history

In a document in 882 an “ecclesia S. Martini in villa rautena” was mentioned as the royal court's own church. In 885 the church was owned by the St. Gallen Monastery . The parish was probably independent from the 9th century. In 1476 a new building was built, which was consecrated in 1477. The church was enlarged in 1657 and renovated in 1740. From 1951 to 1968 the interior was expanded and redesigned. Archaeological investigations were carried out from 1968 to 1982.

architecture

A retracted Gothic choir with a roll Maiger (1476) under a shared gable roof is attached to the nave. In 1740 the church was stuccoed by the plasterer Johann Michael Zimmermann and frescoed by the painter Johann Georg Zick and thus baroque. In 1967 a sacristy was added to the north and the nave was extended. Excavations revealed the foundations of a single-nave predecessor church parallel to the diagonally integrated Gothic north tower.
