Röthis is a municipality in Austria in Vorarlberg in the Feldkirch district with 2110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

geography

Röthis is located in the Vorarlberger Vorderland , in the westernmost state of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the Feldkirch district at an altitude of 508 meters. 32.4% of the area is forested. There are no other cadastral communities in Röthis.

Neighboring communities

The municipality of Röthis shares a municipal boundary with seven other Vorarlberg municipalities, which, like Röthis, are all in the Feldkirch district. The communities Klaus , Weiler , Viktorsberg , Zwischenwasser , Sulz , Rankweil and Koblach are located clockwise (starting in the north) around the community area .

history

The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to Bavaria, then again to Austria. For Austrian province of Vorarlberg Röthis heard since its founding in 1861. The place was 1945-1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Population development

The proportion of foreigners at the end of 2002 was 12.6 percent.

The migration balance has been negative since 1981 , but could be offset by the birth balance. Only between 2001 and 2011 was the birth balance slightly negative.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2010 there were twelve agricultural and forestry businesses in the municipality, six of which were full-time businesses. In the secondary economic sector 639 people worked in 46 companies, two thirds in construction and almost 200 in trade. It is unusual that 24 people worked in the mining industry. In the tertiary economic sector, 105 companies offered 604 jobs, most of them in social and public services, as well as in trade and gastronomy. (Status 2011).

education

There is (as of 2018) a kindergarten and a primary school in the village. The Sulz-Röthis middle school is located in the neighboring village of Sulz .

politics

The community council of Röthis consists of 18 members. As has been the case since 1985, only one parliamentary group, the Röthis municipality list, was on the ballot paper in the last municipal council and mayoral election in 2015 . However, voter turnout fell from 92.21% in 1985 to 48.49%.

Roman Kopf has been the mayor of the community since January 8, 2014, who was confirmed in office in the direct mayor election 2015 with 90.13 percent of the votes.
