Parish church Schönberg am Kamp
The parish church of Schönberg am Kamp stands east above the market in the market town of Schönberg am Kamp in the Krems-Land district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Agnes belongs to the deanery Horn in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).
history
A parish was mentioned in a document in 1283, and in 1384 the parish went to the Diocese of Passau . In 1419 the church was named Our Women's Church . After 1600 the parish was assigned to the parish of Stiefern. In 1687 the church received the patronage of St. Agnes. In 1741 the church was again elevated to a parish church. 1900/1901 was a renovation.
The Gothic church - Romanesque at its core - has a partly Baroque nave, the tower is medieval, the chapel extension is late Gothic.
architecture
The fortified church stands east over the market by a high defensive wall and partly surrounded by a moat. The cemetery connects to the north of the church and was expanded in 1914 to the east outside the defensive wall.
The church shows itself with a nave under a high gable roof , to the north there is a staircase beginning with the western front, then a north portal, then to the north a late Gothic chapel extension. The chorus with a five-eighth ending is slightly higher. The mighty tower stands south of the nave.
Furnishing
The high altar from 1719/1720 with individual parts from the 17th century is a triumphal arch altar with two free-standing, laterally protruding composite columns on a high continuous base.
A work by Franz Capek (1902) is located in a historic organ case .
