The Roman Catholic parish church Sieggraben is located in the center of the municipality Sieggraben in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . The parish church , consecrated on the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross , belongs to the Mattersburg deanery in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building .

history

The parish church for the Exaltation of the Cross in the center of Sieggraben was rebuilt in 1797. Before that there was a church at Sieggrabener Friedhof, which was equipped with a high altar dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

In 1947 the parish church was restored to elevate the cross. In 1979/1980 the church was expanded; on October 12, 1980, the renewed parish church was consecrated to the Exaltation of the Cross by Diocesan Bishop Stefan László .

architecture

The tower, equipped with a flat onion helmet, rises above the western gable facade. The nave has a structure with fascia. The drawn-in choir has a flat ending. The nave has a high square central yoke over four stepped and grooved corner pilasters with a domed vault on a continuous cornice. The two-story narrow west gallery is open to the nave with a segmental arch and has square vaults and a protruding organ stage. The square vaulted choir has a flat east niche with rounded corners.

In 1979/1980 the church was expanded in the form of extensions around the existing apse, creating a kind of transept and giving the church a T-shaped floor plan.

Furnishing

Before the reconstruction of the church in 1979/1980 there was a neo-Gothic high altar in the chancel, which was created in 1900. In the front area of the church there was a side altar with a Lourdes grotto. The pulpit with sower relief, which was also removed in the course of the renovation, was neo-Gothic. There was an oil painting of the Madonna from the mid-19th century above the sacristy door. The wall painting from the first quarter of the 20th century, which was removed during the redesign, showed the Hungarian crown insignia and the busts of the four evangelists.

In the course of the renovation in 1979/1980, the chancel was stripped of its historicist character; the furnishings have been comparatively sober since 1980. The already existing high altar painting "Christ as Redeemer of the Poor Souls", on the back of which the year 1834 is noted, was implemented in the new ensemble. The new altar table and the tabernacle stele are made of sandstone. The gold-leaf tabernacle now forms the focal point in the chancel. A new confessional was set up in 1979/1980 at the site of the Holy Sepulcher that had been placed up until then .

The 14 Stations of the Cross are oil paintings from the second half of the 19th century. The organ case in historicist forms was donated in 1928. The organ comes from the organ builder Josef Huber from Eisenstadt.
