The parish church of St. Georgen an der Gusen stands north-west on the edge of the market in an elevated position above a terrain that slopes steeply on three sides in the market town of St. Georgen an der Gusen in the Perg district in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint George belongs to the Pregarten dean's office in the Linz diocese . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In a document, the church was handed over to Ulrich von Capellen as a fief in 1288 . The church was a branch of Steyregg . Independent parish with 1784 including the parish of Langenstein .

The late medieval three-aisled nave is named 1538 above the south portal and was not vaulted. The choir was built in the early 16th century. The nave was vaulted when it was baroque in 1665. In 1911/1912 the nave was extended to the west by two yokes based on plans by Matthäus Schlager . The tower from the 15th century received a bell bullet and a helmet in 1865. In 1987 a sacristy was added and the baroque side altars removed.

architecture

The church is characterized by the various construction phases, late Gothic, Baroque, and the exterior of the church by the expansion with Matthäus Schlager.

The three-aisled, six-bay hall longhouse is Gothic with baroque vaults on slender high pillars. The central nave has a baroque stab cap barrel, the side aisles have baroque groin vaults. The easternmost sixth nave yoke on the triumphal arch has insert chapels on both sides in the outer line of the buttresses. In the third Langhausjoch there is an analogue mission chapel south. The western extension in the first and second yoke is overall somewhat wider with retracted buttresses.

The late Gothic single - bay choir with a five- eighth closure has busted star rib vaults with jumping diamonds. The tower stands in the northern corner of the choir, while the former sacristy was barrel-vaulted on the tower ground floor. In the southern corner of the choir there is a two-storey sacristy extension.

Furnishing

The high altar as a classicist double column retable shows an altar sheet St. Georg by the painter Anton Hitzenthaler the Younger in 1817 and is crowned with the statue of Christ Salvator, flanked by angels.

The organ was built in 1898 by Leopold Breinbauer in a three-panel case.
