Parish Church of St. Lorenzen near Knittelfeld
The parish church of St. Lorenzen bei Knittelfeld stands on a small elevation in the church settlement of St. Lorenzen bei Knittelfeld in the municipality of Sankt Margarethen bei Knittelfeld in the Murtal district in Styria . history
Before 1075 the church was an own church of Hartnid von Feistritz. Then a branch of the parish church of St. Margarethen near Knittelfeld , the church was raised to a parish church in 1742. Until 1782 the church was incorporated into the Seckau Abbey.
architecture
The late Gothic church building around 1500 is surrounded by a churchyard wall.
The four-bay nave shows an irregular star rib vault with winding ribs on consoles. The drawn-in beveled front arch is ogival. The slightly narrower and two steps higher one-bay choir with a five-eighth closure has a star rib vault on semicircular services and round keystones. The pointed arch windows without tracery have a surrounding coffee cornice under the windows. The crossed west portal is ogival, the south portal is simple. The tower, which is positioned on the western front, has a bell house with a star rib vault on heraldic shield consoles and has a pointed helmet from the 19th century.
The baroque churchyard crucifix is from the first half of the 18th century, the figure painful Maria was created by Balthasar Prandtstätter in the second half of the 18th century.
Furnishing
The baroque high altar with columns and gallery portals, documented as a carpenter's work by Michael Guntschnig in 1712, bears the simultaneous statues Anna and Elisabeth.
The late Gothic font is twelve-sided.
