history

The church was built between 1628 and 1630 by order of the estates by master builder Bartholomeo di Bosio and the stonemason Hans Mamol. The branch church of the church Maria im Elend zu Straßgang was elevated to a parish church in 1787. It was renovated in 1930 and between 1971 and 1972.

description

The church is an octagonal central building with a steep domed vault crowned by a lantern . The dome has a tambour with ox eyes, emphasized by cornices . Originally the dome was covered with shingles , which were replaced by sheet metal in 1916. Corner pilasters emphasize the edges of the building. In the east of the central building is the choir with a roof turret with a hood at the end of the choir. The entrance to the west is protected by a small porch with a gable.

Inside the central building there are niches halfway up the north and south walls. The niche on the north wall has an anteroom protruding to the outside. On the underside of the west gallery, which is seated on pillars, there is a three-axis square vault . The low, square choir is spanned by a groin vault and is connected to the central building by a wide belt arch .

The high altar and the pulpit , which is now a popular altar, were designed by Jakob Peyer in 1790 . The altar panel shows an Immaculate Conception painted by Anton Jantl in 1790 . To the side of the altar sheet are angel statues from the second quarter of the 18th century, designed in the manner of Johann Jacob Schoy . On the consoles are the statues of St. Joseph and St. Francis of Assisi from 1730, also in the manner of Johann Jacob Schoy. A chronogram on the front arch with the coat of arms of the then governor Siegmund Rudolf von Wagensperg and his deputies indicates the secular celebration in 1730. The organ was installed in 1871; baroque church stalls.
