Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Zillingtal

The Roman Catholic parish church Zillingtal is in an elevated position away from the village in the municipality of Zillingtal in the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district in Burgenland . The parish church Peter and Paul belongs to the dean's office Eisenstadt in the diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

The church in an old cemetery was mentioned in a document in 1593. The new church from 1659 was consecrated in 1666 and devastated in the Turkish War (1683) and re-vaulted and renovated in 1696. With the year 1747 on the apse wall, the choir was rebuilt. Renovations took place in the 19th century. 1958 was a restoration. In 1994 the church remembered Father Philipp Kausich SJ / Father Filipu Kausicu SJ (1618–1673) as the first rector of the University of Zagreb .

architecture

The large baroque building has a two-storey west tower with a stone pyramid spire from 1747. The facade of the church is divided with fascias. The choir is formed by three flat, closed cones. The sacristy is added to the north. The three-bay nave with a flat ceiling shows double beams on Ionic double pilasters. The west gallery on a pressed barrel vault has a bulged, curved parapet with applied stucco fields. The single-bay choir with side cones has a flat ceiling and fluted pilasters.

Furnishing

The high altar from the first half of the 18th century is a columnar altar with sacrificial portals and carries the side figures of St. Kings Stephan and Ladislaus inside and the hll. Elisabeth and Barbara outside and in the essay God the Father in the halo. The altarpiece giving the keys shows the year 1837 of a restoration and is framed with a frame with plait decoration from the fourth quarter of the 18th century. The high altar with a rococo tabernacle shows the Esterházy coat of arms .

The side altars from the second half of the 18th century are structurally identical. The left side altar shows the altarpiece Death of St. Joseph and carries the side figures Anna and Joachim. The right side altar shows the altarpiece Johannes Nepomuk and carries the side figures Johannes the Baptist and Johannes Evangelist and shows in the essay a tongue in a halo and in front of it a statue of the Sacred Heart.

The pulpit is from the middle of the 18th century and shows the reliefs Good Shepherd, Storm and Conversion of Paul and Rococo decor on the round basket. The font with a hump-shaped bowl on a pear-shaped baluster is from the first half of the 18th century.

On the south wall is a red marble epitaph for Christoforus de Wachtel, d. 1751.

Johann Georg Koechel cast a bell in Ödenburg (1794).
