The Pfeffergraben is a right tributary of the Nieplitz in Brandenburg . It drains several meadow areas around Rieben (a district of the city of Beelitz ) and Dobbrikow (a district of the Nuthe-Urstromtal community ).

History and course

The Pfeffergraben was renatured in connection with the major nature conservation project Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung as Brandenburg's first major nature conservation project between 1992 and 2004. Craftsmen removed weirs and dams from the existing rivers and thus established a connection between the Pfeffergraben and the Nieplitz.

The ditch begins south of Rieben and runs there in a north-easterly direction. Another ditch leads from the south, which drains the meadows in the northern area of Dobbrikows. Since its renaturation in 2004, the Riebener See has also been draining from the northwest via the Vohskutengraben into the Pfeffergraben. From there it runs in a north-easterly direction along the city limits of Beelitz and meets the Grenzgraben near Stangenhagen. Before that, it crosses the Gänselaake, a 63-hectare lake that was created after a pumping station was closed.
