Horse load

The horse load was a unit of weight primarily in Germany . The measure was used in Hanover and in the Duchy of Oldenburg . In Spain , the carga , a measure of wine , was called a donkey or horse load.

  • 1 horse load = 12 quintals = 1200 pounds = 561,253.2 grams around 561 kilograms

The basis was 1 pound = 467.711 grams

The horse load was also often the basis for customs levies or for transit charges. An agreement of November 1, 1837 between Prussia , Hanover, Oldenburg and Braunschweig stipulated the transit tax for the horse load of 15 silver groschen and a reduced rate of 10 silver groschen, depending on the direction of the goods .
