Pfingstbergkirche

The Pfingstbergkirche is a Protestant church in the Mannheim district of Pfingstberg . It was built between 1962 and 1963 according to plans by Carlfried Mutschler .

history

The modern settlement of Pfingstberg did not begin until 1921 at the marshalling yard between Seckenheim and Rheinau . In terms of church, the Protestant residents initially belonged to the Rheinau Church . In 1932, a lightweight church was built in Pfingstberg in just a few weeks. In the Second World War badly damaged, it was subsequently rebuilt.

The priests in Rheinau were still responsible for pastoral care. A vicariate was not set up until 1954 and then in 1957 its own pastor's office, which in addition to Pfingstberg also included the Hochstätt district. In 1962 the foundation stone for a new church was laid and the following year it was inaugurated on October 13th by regional bishop Julius Bender . In 2002, the congregation merged with the Immanuel congregation from the neighboring district of Casterfeld to form the Immanuel Pfingstberg congregation .

description

The Pfingstbergkirche is located - surrounded by trees on all sides - at the edge of the forest on a small hill. The floor plan, which is based on a square, forms an octagon due to the imperceptibly drawn out walls. The church is glazed all around and only structured by narrow concrete pillars. As a result, the interior appears to merge with the surrounding pine forest. Only next to the entrance portal is a concrete slab embedded in the outer wall, which cites the Whitsun miracle ( Acts 2,1–4  EU ) and at the same time serves as a sun protection for the organ .

The interior furnishings are aligned with the diagonal of the room, the corner points of which are formed by the entrance on one corner and the altar in the other corner. Behind the altar is a concrete relief created by Otto Herbert Hajek . The Steinmeyer organ on the gallery above the entrance dates from 1965 and has 22 registers . The free-standing concrete bell tower is 24 meters high.
