The Whitsun market in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Worms is an annual event that combines a folk festival with a consumer fair . With around 80,000 visitors and 100 commercial exhibitors each, the event is known nationally and internationally.

Content

The trade fair and consumer show offers a trade exhibition and a folk festival on around 11,000 m². Tents for high demands (furniture, household, food, house renovation, renovation, maintenance, etc.) are set up in the specially designated commercial area, while leather goods and toy sellers are primarily to be found in the outdoor area. In addition, various car manufacturers and their vehicles can be found in the uncovered outdoor area.

In the festival area, which is on the same site, there is a mixture of rides , lotteries , shooting galleries and restaurants. Entry is free. The opening times of the festival differ from those of the commercial area, which closes earlier in the evening, but is still accessible (in parts).

Infrastructure and transport links

The Whitsun Market is located directly on the Rhine on the Kisselswiese fairground . Paid parking is right next to it, and the site can be reached via the B9 and B47 .

history

The Worms Pentecost Market goes back to a decree by Emperor Friedrich II , who had already granted the city market rights in 1243 . From then on, the city was allowed to hold a fair for two weeks every year after Easter, to which traders who were not from the city were also allowed. In the 19th century, the trade market, which had meanwhile been relocated to Whitsun, was supplemented by a "Juxmarkt", ie amusement stands. In 1972, a sales exhibition and sample show was held by companies in Worms for the first time. Since 1982 the exhibition has been carried out by changing trade fair organizers, who also opened the Whitsun Market to foreign exhibitors.
