Under planting is meant parts of plants ( tubers , rhizomes , cuttings , bulbs ) that can be inserted into the ground and from which, a new plant is created - the technical term vegetative propagation .

The generative reproduction of plants takes place through seeds , which are sown using various sowing methods .

The Plant Variety Protection and sale of seeds and seedlings is in the Plant Variety Protection Act and Seed Act regulated.

Seed potato

The best-known plant that is propagated by seedlings is the potato , for whose seedlings there is a separate regulation in Germany, in which u. a. plant hygiene, d. H. the absence of plant pathogens (e.g. bacterial ring rot , mucus disease ) is regulated as a prerequisite for approval.
