Phanagoria Island (English; Bulgarian остров Фанагория ostrow Fanagorija ) is a 700 m long and 500 m wide island off the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is the third largest of the Zed Islands and is located 2.1 km northwest of Williams Point . It is separated from Esperanto Island by a 70 m wide and from Lesidren Island by a 130 m wide passage .
Bulgarian scientists mapped it in 2009. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in the same year after Phanagoria , capital of the Greater Bulgarian Empire in the 7th century .
