Phare du Grand Léjon , is the name of a lighthouse on the Channel coast of Brittany in the Côtes-d'Armor department , France . It stands on the southern branch of the underwater plateau Grand Léjon about 9 nautical miles (approx. 16 km) from the coast and marks the entrance to the bay of Saint-Brieuc .
history
The tower was built in two phases between 1859 and 1862. Its range is 18 nautical miles . Because the tower with its relatively weak lighting was ineffective due to the often strong fog , an additional acoustic signal was installed in 1888. Automation took place in 1987.
