EA Phenomic , originally founded as Phenomic Game Development , was a German development studio for computer games . It became famous for the development of the Spellforce series. From 2006 the company was part of the EA Group , and in 2013 it was closed.

Company history

Phenomic was founded in 1997 by Volker Wertich in Ingelheim am Rhein under the name Phenomic Game Development. Wertich had already earned a reputation as the inventor and creative head of the successful Die-Siedler series and was significantly involved in the development of the first and third parts of the series.

In August 2006, Phenomic Game Development was taken over by the US publisher Electronic Arts and has since operated under the name EA Phenomic. In the group structure, EA Phenomic was assigned to the Swedish development studio Digital Illusions CE . EA Phenomic was the first studio to be acquired by Electronic Arts in Europe outside of the UK. meaning

Besides Crytek , EA Phenomic was one of the few German studios with international significance. In the area of international reviews, Phenomic was one of the most successful German development studios. From 2001 to 2006 there were only two PC games developed in Germany that achieved a higher average rating on Metacritic.com than SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars , namely Far Cry and Gothic .

A novelty in the SpellForce series is the unusually strong mixture of elements from the genres of real-time strategy and role-playing games. On December 13, 2011 it was announced that EA Phenomic is developing the web-based real-time strategy Free2Play game Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances .
