Phil Coppess

Phil Coppess (born September 2, 1954 ) is a retired American marathon runner .

He was among the top US marathon runners in the mid-1980s, despite working full-time in a factory. In 1981 he won the Chicago Marathon and the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville . In 1982 he was sixth in the London Marathon . In 1985 he won the Twin Cities Marathon with his personal best of 2:10:05 h, setting a course record that lasted until 2016.

His last marathon was the US eliminator for the 1988 Olympic Games , in which he came in 55th place in 2:30:45.
