Phil Walden
Phil Walden (born January 11, 1940 - April 23, 2006 ) was the manager of the soul singer Otis Redding . After his accidental death, he founded his Macon- based music label Capricorn Records in 1969 , for which he signed relatively unknown bands from the region. His record company helped artists such as " The Allman Brothers Band ", " The Marshall Tucker Band ", " Grinderswitch " or " The Elvin Bishop Group " achieve their international breakthrough in the early 1970s and thus helped shape the still new style of music " Southern Rock ". Walden supported the 1976 US presidential candidacy of outsider Jimmy Carter , Democratic Party candidate . He also organized concerts with The Allman Brothers Band as a draft horse. The income flowed into the election campaign of the successful candidate.
