Marshall Tucker Band (2008)

The Marshall Tucker Band , founded in 1971 in Spartanburg ( South Carolina ), is one of the most famous southern rock -Bands 1970s. The music is a mix of styles from rock , country music and jazz , combined with long acoustic passages. Members were: the singer Doug Gray, the guitarist Toy Caldwell († February 25, 1993), Tommy Caldwell († April 28, 1980) on bass, the guitarist George McCorkle († June 29, 2007) and the drummer Paul Riddle with Jerry Eubanks.

Band history

The band signed a contract with Capricorn Records and released their debut album in March 1973. The band got attention through a tour with the Allman Brothers . Her greatest success was the album Carolina Dreams with the included song Heard It in a Love Song , which made it to number 15 in the charts in 1977 . Searchin 'for a Rainbow and Long Hard Ride are two signature albums of Southern Rock.

In 1980 bassist Tommy Caldwell died in a car accident. The band has not made the album charts since 1982. Toy Caldwell left the band to begin a solo career. He later founded the Toy Caldwell Band and released a CD with them in 1992.

Various books about the band have been published in the USA. The 1998 band's line-up was: Rusty Milner (guitar), Tim Lawter (bass), Stuart Swanlund (guitar), David Muse (saxophone, flute and keyboard) and BB Borden (formerly a member of Mother's Finest ) on drums . In addition to the 1998 release Face Down in the Blues , the band released an album of gospel songs in 1999. The gospel CD contains a unique interpretation of the gospel classic Wayfaring Stranger . After various line-up changes, the albums Beyond the Horizon and The Next Adventure were released in 2004 and 2007 , which were again recorded in the guitar-oriented southern rock style of the 70s and 80s.

The American glam metal band Poison released the album Poison'd! In 2007 . which only contained cover versions . For this CD Poison had also recorded the song Can't You See by the Marshall Tucker Band. The band Black Stone Cherry released another version of Can't You See in 2011 on the album Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea .
