Titular Diocese of Philadelphia (Cilicia)

Philadelphia or Philadelpheia (Greek Φιλαδελφία or Φιλαδελφεῖα) was an ancient city in the Cilicia region of Asia Minor . It belonged to the "rough" part of Cilicia (Kilikia Tracheia) on the southern Turkish Mediterranean coast. The place is located near the village of Gökçeseki in the Ermenek district of the Karaman province . Since 2015 the Karaman Museum has been carrying out excavations there in collaboration with the Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University.
Philadelphia is known for the minting of coins in the 2nd century AD during the Roman Empire, when it belonged to the Roman province of Cilicia or Isauria in late antiquity .
In late antiquity it was a Christian diocese and is now a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the ecclesiastical province of Seleucia in Isauria under the name Philadelphia Minor ( Italian : Filadelfia Minore ) . The only titular bishop so far was Bernardo Fey Schneider CSsR (1952–1968), coadjutor bishop of Potosí .
