Harold Danko

Harold Danko (born June 13, 1947 in Sharon (Pennsylvania) ) is an American modern jazz pianist .

Live and act

Danko, who grew up in Ohio , played the piano from the age of five. After graduating from Youngstown State University , he joined the army and played in an army band. He then became a member of Woody Hermans Thundering Herd and moved to New York City , where he worked with Chet Baker , Gerry Mulligan and Lee Konitz and played in the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra . He founded his own quartet, with which he regularly submitted albums, and worked there with Rich Perry , Michael Formanek and Jeff Hirshfield .

In addition, Danko taught at the New School, the Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music , where he has been a professor since 1998 and currently (2016) heads the department for jazz and contemporary media. He also wrote a regular column for Keyboard Magazine and published an instructional video on Jazz Keyboard Techniques .
