Philaeus is a genus from the jumping spider family(Salticidae). After the species Philaeus maoniuensis was assigned tothe genus Yllenus in 2003, the genus still includes 13 species today.

distribution

Species of the genus Philaeus are particularly widespread in the Mediterranean and West Africa. Jumping spiders are also found occasionally in Guatemala and on the Galápagos Islands . Its most famous representative is the golden-eyed jumping spider , which is spread over large parts of the southern Palearctic . It occurs in Central Europe (up to some Polish areas).
