Philharmonia Quartet Berlin
The Philharmonia Quartet Berlin is a string quartet founded in 1985 and made up of members of the Berlin Philharmonic .
The longstanding members included concertmaster Daniel Stabrawa , section leader of the second violins Christian Stadelmann († 2019), section leader and solo violist Neithard Resa , and cellist Jan Diesselhorst († 2009). When the latter died unexpectedly, the cello part was taken over by Dietmar Schwalke that same year .
The Philharmonia Quartet has given concerts around the world and has made several recordings that are available on compact disc . In the Berlin Philharmonic the ensemble could be heard with a Beethoven and a Shostakovich cycle, in which all of the composer's string quartets were performed.
The repertoire of the Philharmonia Quartet spanned more than a hundred works from classical to 20th century music . The string quartet also devoted itself to unusual compositions of the genre, such as the first string quartet by Erwin Schulhoff , the second string quartet by Karol Szymanowski , the fourth string quartet by Paul Hindemith or Opus 74 by Max Reger .
