Philip Embury Browning

Philip Embury Browning (born September 9, 1866 in Rhinebeck , New York , † January 2, 1937 ) was an American chemist.

He graduated from Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie and studied from 1885 at Yale University , where he graduated from AB in 1889. He initially became an assistant for chemistry, and received his doctorate in 1892. phil. and studied in 1893 at the University of Munich under Krüss . The following year he became an instructor at Yale University and, in 1898, an assistant professor of chemistry. 1929-1932 he was Associated Professor and Curator of chemical exhibition at Yale University.

He did research on qualitative chemical analysis and, with Gooch, on rare elements.

He became a member of the American Chemical Society, from 1900 a member of the New Haven City Council and 1903-04 Republican Congressman.
