Philip Lombardo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo (* 1911 in New York City , † 1987 in Hollywood (Florida) ) was a high-ranking member of the American La Cosa Nostra and head of the Genovese family .

In 1933 he was deputy to "Underboss" Michael Coppola , who led the "116th Street Crew", which represented the "family" in East Harlem .

For health reasons he had to give up his position as head after only two weeks; However, it is assumed by many today that he had been the actual boss since the late 1960s, as the FBI used appropriate tape recordings, e.g. B. ordered by John Gotti .

Even Thomas Eboli and Frank Tieri were therefore just Philip Lombardo's straw men .

When Frank Tieri died of cancer on March 31, 1981, Anthony Salerno became the head of the Genovese clan, but since he was also seriously ill like Lombardo, Vincent Gigante can be seen as the actual head from this point on.
