Philip Lodewijk Jacob Frederik Sadée (born February 7, 1837 in The Hague , † December 14, 1904 ibid) was a Dutch painter from the Hague School .

Life

Sadée began his artistic training when he was around twenty. He studied at the Hague Academy and in the private studio of Jacobus Everhardus Josephus van den Berg (1802–1861). In 1866 he went to Düsseldorf with his college friend Julius van de Sande Bakhuyzen (1835–1925) , whose art academy had gained international renown through the Düsseldorf School of Painting . Sadée remained there until 1868. At first he painted mainly historical and biblical scenes, later he turned on the advice of Albert Kindler of genre painting to. In his genre pieces depictions of fishermen's life and cityscapes dominate. Sadée went on study trips to Germany, Belgium and France. He worked as a teacher at the Hague Academy. Hendrikus Matheus Horrix (1845–1923) was one of his students. Sadée was a member of the artists' associations Arti et Amicitiae , Pulchri Studio and Nieuwe of Littéraire Sociëteit “De Witte” .
