Philipp Ernst Foerster

Philipp Ernst Förster (born March 6, 1618 in Arnstadt , † July 5, 1658 in Wernigerode ) was court and judicial councilor and office director of the Counts of Stolberg -Wernigerode.

Life

Philipp Ernst Förster was the son of the Chancellor of the Counts of Gleichen, Johann Friedrich Förster, who was also a secretary and councilor of the Counts of Schwarzburg and worked in Arnstadt in Thuringia. His mother was the daughter of the local magistrate, Maria Magdalena Schubart. He was baptized on March 10th in the Church of Our Lady in Arnstadt in the presence of his namesake, Count Philipp Ernst von Gleichen.

After attending school in Arnstadt, he went to the University of Jena in 1636 , where he studied philosophy and law . He continued his studies at the Universities of Leyden , Marburg and Altdorf near Nuremberg . He did his doctorate in Altdorf.

In 1642, forester became a syndic in Frankenhausen . In 1646 Count Heinrich Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode appointed him to the Count of Stolberg's court counselor and brought him to Wernigerode. As the count moved his court seat to Ilsenburg a little later , Förster also worked temporarily in this Harzer hut town.

Shortly before his death in 1658 , Förster was appointed by Duke Friedrich Wilhelm II of Saxony-Altenburg as a councilor and consistorial councilor in Coburg . Before he could take on this new position, he died and was buried on July 9, 1658 in the Sylvestri Church in Wernigerode.

Förster married Martha Catharina Mattenberger in 1645, the daughter of the councilor and citizen of Gotha, Wilhelm Mattenberger. From this marriage the sons Johann Friedrich, Heinrich Ernst and Ernst Christian as well as the daughter Maria Elisabeth emerged.

Philipp Ernst Förster played a key role in the reconstruction of the County of Wernigerode after the Thirty Years War. Due to his committed and careful work, it was possible that the county recovered from the chaos of war very soon. In the National Archives Saxony-Anhalt numerous archival documents have been handed down from his official activities.

His funeral sermon was published in Gotha in 1659 by Johann Michael Schall.
