Seven weeks after her death, on April 7, 1815, her father married Elisabeth Gottdanck (1775–?) From Merzig for the second time. In 1825, Philipp Müller began an apprenticeship as a copper engraver in the Wallerfang stoneware factory, where his father also worked. His trainer in Wallerfangen was John Leigh from Burslem, England . The most famous designs include a plate series on the life of Napoleon, the Burgenland series with castle motifs from Saar , Rhine and Moselle , humorous hunting scenes and a series with country motifs . He also designed the service "Jardinière" with floral motifs. Müller was one of the few designers who were allowed to sign their motifs.

In a sideline he worked as an illustrator and caricaturist. During the Franco-Prussian War he supplied wood engraving drawings to the Leipziger Illustrierte and the weekly Über Land und Meer . Drawings showing life on the Saar during the war of 1870/1871 and shortly thereafter have also been preserved.

Müller was married to Catharina Hetzler (1819–1897) from May 17, 1836. The marriage had three children: Philipp Müller d. J. (1837–1896), Catharina Sophie Müller (1840–1886) and Pierre Müller (1847–1921). Both sons also became engravers at Villeroy & Boch.
