Philipp Meurer

Philipp Meurer (* around 1554 in Leipzig ; † 1607 ) was a German legal scholar . He was a Danish councilor and a Holstein vice-chancellor.

Life

He was the son of the physician and educator Wolfgang Meurer from Altenberg in the Ore Mountains and was born in the trade fair city of Leipzig. He left the Electorate of Saxony early on and settled in the free Hanseatic city of Hamburg , where, after successfully studying law, he became a Dr. iur. doctorate and in 1588 Counsel was appointed and exercised this office until the 1596th

On March 12, 1596, he was appointed Vice Chancellor of Holstein by Duke Johann Adolf of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottdorf. Just one year later, he moved to Husum as President . He was also temporarily active as a council in the service of the King of Denmark.

His work in Husum is mainly characterized by long-standing conflicts with the pastor Johann Neocorus (* 1566). In 1603 he was deposed because of poor administration in Husum. After that his track is lost.

Philipp Meurer married Catharina, the daughter of the syndic Wilhelm Moller. Numerous children were born from their marriage, including
