from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philipp Neri Chrismann (* 1751 in Hindelang ; † 1810 in Hedingen near Sigmaringen ) was a German Catholic fundamental theologian of the Franciscan order . He is considered to be the forerunner of Heinrich Denzinger .

life and work

After 1770 Chrismann was an observant in the Franciscan monastery in Füssen . In 1783 he became a lecturer in theology and church history. From 1799 to 1801 he was Guardian of the Augsburg Franciscan Convent. In 1810 he died as a guardian of the Hedingen monastery near Sigmaringen. He is described as a "decidedly devout theologian" to whom it was important to distinguish dogma from mere doctrinal opinion. He was later accused of going too far with his critical opinion on magisterial authority. This is probably why his main work " Regula Fidei Catholicae " was included on the index in 1869 .
